Unique Contemporary House Under Construction

Now under construction, this unique, contemporary home on Lake Champlain features large windows; two, upper-floor, outdoor terraces; and an open floor plan to take advantage of sweeping lake and mountain views.  Black-painted steel elements such as tapered entry columns, stair stringers, a two-story exterior circular stair, balcony railings, and exposed structural beams give the house a sleek crispness.  Other features, such as a curved sun screen and deep roof overhangs, are both sculptural and practical.  It was especially fun working with structural engineers, Engineering Ventures, Inc., on this house because the armiture is so expressive and the details so integral to the whole.

Inside, LED edge-lit counters made of thick, textured glass will evoke the changing moods of the lake and give the kitchen a dramatic and colorful glow.

The entire house, including small details such as cable railing, cabinetry, and glowing light fixtures, was modeled in 3D using Graphisoft's state-of-the-art software, Archicad.  The program's walk-through and fly-around capabilities have facilitated design and communication as well as heightened both client and builder's understanding of the house.  Because the 3D model is seamlessly developed into construction drawings, both 3D and 2D elements continue to be synced, updated, and utilized throughout construction.

Red House, Inc., the general contractor, is working toward a summer completion of the house, including landscaping by H.Keith Wagner Landscape Architects.

Stay tuned!
